This course presents selected security aspects, threats and security challenges for the 3GPP 5G networks. Brief look at available requirements, recommendations and guidelines is followed by introduction to functions and procedures designed to improve the security of the networks for communication with regular users and the growing number of IoT devices.

Upon completion of this learning program, you will be able to:

• List and describe the major security threats in the mobile telecom environment
• Outline the security procedures defined in the 5G System: UE and network authentication, signalling and user data protection, privacy protection
• List and describe the roles of a number of security mechanisms used in the 5G System: various authentication and authorization options, generation and key derivation for encryption and integrity verification, usage and handling of the Subscription Concealed Identifier (SUCI)
